Hertervig 3D is a high definition video, a 3D representation of a famous painting by Lars Hertervig, "Gamle Furutrær" (Old Pinetrees, 1865, 64 x 74,5 cm). The videowork suggests that Hertervig, a 19th century painter from the Stavanger region, should be viewed as an early multimedia artist. Strong 3D spatial concepts and even hints of the coming motionpicture play parts in his work and provide for smoth transition into 3D virtual reality. It is hard to believe, but Hertervig has long been considered the typical romantic dreamer. Anyway, the pictorial structure of his work is often remarkably solid and clear cut.

Fra 3 til tre-D (a pun on the words for "3" and "wood" which have the same spelling in Norwegian). There will be a broad presentation of the project Virtual Woodscape, its root and development, branches and twigs. Focus will be on the relationship between everyday woodgrain structures and animated 3D computer models. Next to my show, the National Museum of Art, Design and Architecture will mount Norwegian Wood, a presentation of wood architecture in Norway up until today.

Tretrykk (woodprints) takes place in an art institute outside of Stavanger situated at the ocean. Woodprints are works in traditional woodprinting technique where there is cut nothing. Instead, the wood texture leaves its imprint on special quality paper. The intricate and familiar patterns of wood are actually recordings of organic growth in the coordinates of time and space. The material used for printing these works has been characterized as urban driftwood. My point here is that beauty is a messenger as good as any object floating in the seas.
